Emotional Intelligence

Typed 26th February, 2007 at 1:15 pm

I found a decent article on Emotional Intelligence, supposedly the opposite to academic intelligence. But the way I see it is if your academically clever odds are you will be emotionally intelligent. Also take the test towards the bottom of the page to rate your emotional intelligence. I got 75.

Can I ask you to read some more …not just about EI, but specifically Howard Gardners Multiple Intelligences.
It is likely that you can look back at your own schooldays and [now] see how different people can be ‘clever’ in different ways.
On a personal basis, I have an IQ …measured by Mensa as 165 and I know, from very good, quality psychometrics [which by the way CANNOT give out a figure like IQ or your temperature] and my own and others human observations that I have to watch my perseverence with EQ or EI.
EI is not ‘opposite’ to academic intelligence - it is [partly] complEmentary.

Can I, therefore, with respect, suggest that the way you ’see it’ is not with 20/20 vision and would benefit from the reading I suggest.[I can be more specific if you would like me to be, but the initial value is in a GoogleSearch to find some for yourself].

I will be happy to chat summaw - so come back if you wish.
Meanwhile - happy reading and every EI wish to you.
    Sincerely
    Ray

PS Perhaps the best way to start your wider EI appreciation is to consider and recognise your own ‘feelings’ now you have read this note.

    Hi Jonny
Having read your ‘About’, and now know ‘a little’ more than I did when I responded earlier, I will ‘test’ your EI once more…
I am 60 - trained as an engineer - became a teacher …a MATHS TEACHER and was Head of Maths, head of 6th Form and for the last 13 years of my career Senior Deputy Head of a very successful 13 - 19 state Comprenesive school. For the last 10 years I have run my own management & training consultancy with a special interest in applied Emotional Intelligence.
Although a lot of my work has been - and still is - in small companies I do quite a bit in schools. many schools actually ‘teach’ EI, although in schools the work is more often than not referred to as Emotional Literacy.
Please read some more about EI+ for yourself - take it from me that IQ may well ‘get you the job’, but EQ will allow you to ‘get the job done, successfully !’

    Take care
    Sincerely
    Ray
