Welcome to the first part of my ever expanding “Guide to the Internet” series. I will first outline commonly used acronyms in Instant Messaging and then move on to the acronyms pertaining to web design and development.

Instant Messaging

  • IM - Instant Messaging
  • AIM - AOL Instant Messenger
  • YIM - Yahoo! Instant Messenger
  • ICQ - I Seek You
  • IRC - Internet Relay Chat

  • ASAP - As Soon As Possible
  • BC - Because
  • BRB - Be right Back
  • FYI - For Your Information
  • G2G - Got to Go
  • JK - Just Kidding
  • K - Okay
  • LOL - Laugh out Loud
  • WTF - What the Fuck

Normal

  • ASL - Age Sex Location
  • ATM - At The Moment
  • BTW - By The Way
  • IMHO - In My Honest/Humble Opinion
  • IMO - In My Opinion
  • LMAO - Laughing My Ass Off
  • ROFL - Rolling On the Floor Laughing
  • ROFLMAO - Rolling On the Floor Laughing My Ass Off
  • TBH - To Be Honest

Hard

  • AFAIK - As Far As I Know
  • BFN - Bye For Now
  • GMTA - Great Minds Think Alike
  • SYS - See You Soon / Speak to You Soon

Web Design/Development

  • API - Application Program Interface
  • RSS - Real Simple Syndication
